Our iOS Immersive training started last July 4. Our objective by the end of 12 weeks is to be able to launch our individual iOS apps in the App Store. We were a diverse set of students varying from newbies to intermediate levelled ones, but that didn’t really matter as all egos were left by the door. We are all there to learn.
3 sessions deep into the Immersive, we were able to learn and practice programming concepts and logic formulation in the XCode playground. We were also able to apply them in our XCode projects using Swift after getting familiar with XCode’s layout, panes and toolbars.
It could otherwise be overwhelming if we simply focused on coding but what made each session more interesting and engaging is that we also got to share the app that we wanted to build. Other than our instructor, we got advice and suggestions from mentors and peers that helped redefine our app ideas. We were guided in determining key features of our apps and how to lay them down into a wireframe that we’ll use to design and code them with.
We can’t wait to learn more! What used to be intimidating and seemingly impossible is starting to look like something we can accomplish. We’ve learned so much in just 3 sessions. So imagine what we’ll be capable of in 12 weeks?
Thanks Appstart Academy for making this type of learning possible!
“Whether we‘re fighting climate change or going to space, everything is moved forward by computers, and we don‘t have enough people who can code. Teaching young people to code early on can help build skills and confidence and energize the classroom with learning-by-doing opportunities. I learned how to fly a hot air balloon when I was 30,000 feet up and my life was in the balance: you can learn skills at any age but why wait when we can teach everyone to code now!”
